Global agriculture · research into practice

Research became an online learning platform

Five and a half years of agricultural research needed to become something programme teams and partners could understand, navigate and use in live decisions.

The work

What needed to be adopted

Programme teams and partners needed to adopt a new way of making decisions about data, drawn from five and a half years of research across twelve countries and thirty-two organisations. The evidence was substantial, but it risked remaining trapped in research, specialist language and disconnected communications. The client-side challenge was described plainly: too much thinking and not enough doing, with no clear way to make the work legible to the people who needed to use it.

Philpott’s role

Philpott Design helped structure the material, frame the user journeys and hold product thinking, narrative, UX, engagement and production under one creative direction. The contribution included journey mapping, personas, prototyping workshops, UX walkthroughs and repeated feedback with programme teams and users.

What was made

  • 01FAIR Process Framework: a six-step web learning platform
  • 02Workbooks, videos and defined user journeys
  • 03Programme journals and leadership decks
  • 04Films, animated infographics and Theory of Change materials
  • 05Style and vocabulary guidance
  • 06Workshops and feedback protocols

Outcome and evidence

A form people can adopt.

01

What made it easy to adopt

The research gained a practical route into use: a programme officer or research partner can recognise the six-step process, navigate the supporting materials, apply a step to a real decision and carry the approach into their own team.

02

Evidence

Approximately seven years of evidenced work. Source material covered five and a half years of research across twelve countries and thirty-two organisations. The relationship is the clearest example of Philpott Design combining framework design, UX, narrative, production and capability building in one commission.

03

How the work moved

The work moved through discovery, framing, making, testing and embedding. User testing and structured feedback shaped the platform between alpha, beta and launch.
